Ancient Weddings in an Ancient City
In China's Shaanxi province, 130 newlywed couples donned the costumes of their elders and prepared to marry. The couples wore bright red Han-dynasty era costumes which harken back more than 2,000 years. It was part of a traditional group wedding ceremony that follows the nuptial rites of the Hans.
Xi'an (the capital of Shaanxi) is one of the four great ancient capitals of China. It is more than 3,100 years old and was the country's capital during the Tang, Sui Han and Zhou dynasties.
