Public Art by Satellite

In this short video, a public art event in the Netherlands is documented from the perspective of a Google satellite, creating an unnerving perspective on otherwise idyllic activities. The event, the flux/S Square One project , transformed an industrial area in Eindhoven into an arena for creative expression. The project is not really commentary on the Google service so much as a chance to use it as a lens through which to view public space. flux/S explains, "What if Google Maps went live... offers an invitation to reclaim and redefine public space as performative space; a space where people meet, share experiences, and act their way." The concept was developed by Moniker, a creative studio, and commissioned by flux/S.
