40 Years of Las Vegas Sprawl, as Seen From Space

Las Vegas's notorious sprawl has been well documented but that doesn't mean we'll ever get bored of looking at it. 

NASA, via one of its Landsat satellites, has released a fun time-lapse video showing the city's last 40 years of seemingly endless growth. The areas marked in red signify new areas of population expansion.

The video starts at 1972 and ends at 2010. During that time, the Las Vegas metro area has seen its population grow from slightly under 300,000 to almost 2 million.
