In Warsaw, Green Jobs That Do Double the Good
The Recycling of Souls is moving documentary portrait of a recycling facility in Warsaw, Poland, that employs people with learning disabilities and mental health issues. The program is run by EKON, an organization that pairs disabled people with green jobs. For people who might not find jobs otherwise, the opportunity provides not just a salary but community and friends. Piotr Malecki, a Polish photojournalist, blends still images and video interviews to tell this story. Malecki produced the short with Panos Pictures as part of a series of vignettes about Warsaw and describes the ongoing project in an interview with the Atlantic Video channel.
